Jean Elsen sale 138, lot 1049
This specimen was lot 1049 in Jean Elsen sale 138 (Brussels, September 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XV (1715-1774), AV demi-louis d'or au bandeau, 1753S, Reims. D/ T. à g., ceinte d'un bandeau. R/ Ecus ovales de France et de Navarre sous une couronne. Rare Patine colorée. Très Beau. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, gold half louis of the ribbon of 1753, Reims mint. Obverse: head to left, hair tied in a ribbon; reverse: oval arms of France and Navarre under a crown. Rare, colorful toning, very fine.)"
This half louis d'or au bandeau is from a type struck 1740-70, mostly at Paris.

Recorded mintage: 3,732, common date of a rare type[2].

Specification: 4.07 g, .917 fine gold, 20 mm diameter, reeded edge; this specimen 4,03 g.
