This specimen was lot 24658 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $2,250. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XV gold Louis d'or 1748-W, Lille mint, MS64 NGC. Shimmering gold brilliance, with bold definition. A fully original, near-Gem example." This type was struck 1740-70 and is common as French gold coins go and this is a common date.

Recorded mintage: 210,250.

Specification: 8.15 g, .917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, designed by J. C. Roéttiers.
