This specimen was lot 1394 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 21 (Winter Park, FL, May 2017), where it sold for $998.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "France (Aix mint), ecu, Louis XV, 1730-&, encapsulated PCGS MS 62 PCGS Secure, finest and only specimen in PCGS census. Lustrous and lightly gold-toned, with adjustment marks on reverse, slightly crude rims (as made). PCGS #32954191." This coin is an écu aux branches d'olivier from the Aix mint. Aix struck this type 1726-40 and most dates are common. The type was struck 1726-40 during the reign of Louis XV of France. This coin was part of the great coinage reform of Cardinal Fleury which finally terminated the manipulations which had disrupted the economy since the 1690's.

Recorded mintage: 526,486, a common date[2], but uncommon condition.

Specification: 29.49 g, .917 fine silver, 39-41 mm diameter, edge lettered, DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM, designed by Norbert Roéttiers.
