This specimen was lot 1368 in Jean Elsen sale 141 (Brussels, June 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XIV (1643-1715), AR dixième d'écu aux trois couronnes, 1713A, Paris. D/ B. à d., cuirassé à l'antique. R/ Trois couronnes posées en triangle, séparées par trois lis. Le droit légèrement nettoyé. Superbe. Provient de notre vente 83, 12 mars 2005, 2064. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, silver tenth écu of the three crowns of 1713, Paris mint. Obverse: armored bust right; reverse: three crowns posed in a triangle, separated by three lilies. Obverse lightly cleaned. Extremely Fine.)"
Shown is a dixième d'écu aux trois couronnes (tenth écu with three crowns) struck at the Paris mint in the last years of Louis XIV's reign. This is the only type of tenth écu struck during the Sun King's life. The type was struck 1709-15 in substantial numbers. There are also 1/20, 1/4, 1/2 and one écus struck during this period with this design. This date is common. Its original face value was 9 sols 6 deniers, which was reduced to 7 sols by September 1715.

Recorded mintage: 524,160[2], a common date.

Specification: 3.06 g, .917 fine silver, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Roéttiers, this specimen 3,02 g.
