France 1649-B louis d'or

Jean Elsen sale 134, lot 1694
This specimen was lot 1694 in Jean Elsen sale 134 (Brussels, September 2017), where it sold for €600 (about US$847 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XIV (1643-1715), AV louis d'or à la mèche longue, 1649B, Rouen. D/ T. enfantine laurée à d. R/ Croix formée de huit L couronnés, cantonnée de quatre lis. Légères traces de monture. Beau à Très Beau. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, gold louis of the long hair of 1649, Rouen mint. obverse: infant bust to right, laureate, draped and armored; reverse: eight "L's" formed in a cross with four fleurs-de-lys in the quarters. Light trace of mounting, fine to very fine.)"
This Rouen mint issue is a slightly better date. The louis d'or à la mèche longue is a common type, struck 1646-59.

Recorded mintage: 30,090[2].

Specification: 6.75 g, .917 fine gold, plain edge, designed by Jean Warin, this specimen 6,63 g.
