This specimen was lot 29662 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XVI gold 2 Louis d'or 1790-K MS61 NGC, Bordeaux mint, KM 592.8. A most attractive example from the lesser-seen Bordeaux mint, with golden coloration that is accented by coppery tone and well-struck detail across the design elements. Somewhat choice for the grade when examined as a whole, and in a Mint State designation such as this, one that is entirely worthy of a premium bid."

Louis d'or à la tête nue (1785-92): 15.29 g, .917 fine gold, 28 mm diameter, reeded edge. Gad-363: C (last common date and only common date for 1790). Dr/4 no. 877: reported mintage 7,381 but est. to be 207,000.
