England 1562 6 pence rev Ponterio 169-22201.jpg

This specimen was lot 22201 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $394. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 6 Pence, 1562. NGC VF-35. Elizabeth I (1558-1603). Milled. Tall narrow bust and plain dress." It is not, strictly speaking, correct to refer to Great Britain until the reign of James I, who united England and Scotland. Numismatists do not count the milled coinage as part of the sequence of first thru seventh issues.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: S-2594.
