Goldberg sale 84, lot 4190
Great Britain G84-4190r.jpg

This specimen was lot 4190 in Goldberg sale 84 (Los Angeles, January 2015), where it sold for $270.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. Halfgroat, ND. Henry VI, First reign, 1422-1461. Pinecone-mascle issue (1431-33). Calais mint. Bold example. NGC graded EF-45." The groat (cognate of "great", meaning large) was four pence; so we deduce that this coin was two pence. Silver two pence would be struck into the reign of George III.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: S.1877.
