Emilia 1860 50 centesimi
This type was struck at Florence 1859-61 while the kingdom of Italy was being organized. Numerous provisional issues were minted in that period from Bologna, Florence and Birmingham, England, in an attempt to drive out all the local issues which had circulated for decades. After Vittorio Emanuele was formally crowned in 1861, minting was restricted to Turin, Milan and Naples. After Rome was conquered in 1870, the other mints were gradually closed.
