Künker sale 293, lot 2134
This specimen was lot 2134 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,617 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"POLEN, ELBING, Stadt. 18-Gröscher (Ort, 1/4 Reichstaler) 1662, mit Titel Johann Kasimirs (1649-1668). R Sehr schön. (Poland, city of Elbing, 18 groszy or quarter thaler of 1662, struck in the name of John Casimir, 1649-68. Scarce, very fine.)"
This denomination, struck at Elbing in various styles 1656-57 and 1661-67, seems to be unique to Poland. The SCWC notes that it traded for a quarter thaler but may only have been a fifth.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dutkowski/Suchanek 292 (R3); Kopicki 7128 (R3), KM-85.
