This specimen was lot 2423 in Ponterio sale 164 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $1,322.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Eichstatt. Taler, 1796-CD. Josef Von Stubenberg (1790-1802). Lustrous, lightly toned. UNCIRCULATED." The bishopric of Eichstatt, now in Bavaria, occasionally issued coins. This thaler and its accompanying half thaler are only scarce as opposed to rare.
