This specimen was part of lot 34252 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), which sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Lot of Six Different 4 Reales Coins 1841 1842 1843 1845 1855 1857, Average grade is Fine, some cleaned. 1845 is VG and very scarce." This type was struck 1841-43 and normally encountered in Fine or lower. It is lightweight and debased, similar to the infamous Bolivian four reales of 1830.
