The specimen shown is from a type struck 1991-1992. It features a bust of Juan Pablo Duarte on reverse. In 1991, the Dominican Republic also issued a commemorative one peso (KM 81) honoring the Pinzon brothers, explorers from the Age of Discovery. Production of fractional coinage was suspended in 1991 but one pesos coins still appear.

Recorded mintage: 40,000,000.

Specification: 6.5 g, brass, 25 mm diameter.
