This specimen was lot 4831 in Goldberg sale 72 (Los Angeles, February 2013), where it sold for $2,559. The catalog description[1] noted, "Dahomey. 10000 Francs, 1971. On 10th Anniversary of Independence. Arcanthopholis. NGC graded Proof 68 Ultra Cameo." Dahomey was renamed the Republic of Benin in 1975. Gold 2,500, 5,000, 10,000 (shown here) and 25,000 francs were issued in 1971, the only gold issues for that country.

Recorded mintage: 470.

Specification: 35.55 g, .900 fine gold, 1.028 troy oz AGW.
