This coin was issued to honor the twenty-fifth anniversary of the central bank of Costa Rica, an event of breathtaking insignificance even in Costa Rica. It was the first twenty colones coin issued since the Venus de Milo issue of 1970 (KM 193) and not followed by another until the stainless steel design of 1983-94 (KM 216.1). It is accompanied by a nickel five colones (KM 203) and ten colones (KM 204).

Recorded mintage: 1,995,111 plus 5,000 proofs.

Specification: nickel, 36 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 205.
