This specimen was part of lot 30332 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), which sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "Costa Rica, Republic 3-Piece gold & silver "Conservation" Proof Set 1974, 1) silver "Sea Turtle" 50 Colones - Proof, KM 200a; 2) silver "Manatee" 100 Colones - Proof, KM 201a; 3) gold "Anteater" 1500 Colones - PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC, KM 202; A conditionally admirable Conservation set, including the gold "Anteater" 1500 Colones, which saw a total mintage of only 726 examples." This NCLT was struck in two formats: the uncirculated specimens in billon (25.55 g, 0.500 fine silver) and the proofs in sterling (28.28 g, 0.925 fine silver, shown here). A similar thing was done for the accompanying 100 colones.

Recorded mintage: 7,599 + 11,000 proofs.

Specification: 25.55 g, 0.500 fine silver, 38.6 mm diameter. Proofs were struck in 28.28 g, 0.925 fine silver.
