Heritage sale 3035, part of lot 33106
Costa Rica H3035-33106l.jpg

This type, struck in brass in 1920-1941, is common. This specimen was part of lot 33106 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), which sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "High Quality 20th Century 5 Centavos Collection, KM147, KM151 and KM169 include both 5 Centavos (those dated 1917-1919) and 5 Centimos (beginning in 1920). This octet from the Fred Mayer group was believed by one collector to be the highest quality examples from each date. The 1917 -1918 -1919 are each EF or so, perhaps better. The 1920 -1929 - 1936 -1938 and 1940 are either UNC or very close to such. Scarce assemblage under-appreciated except by specialists."

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000.

Specification: 1 g, brass.

Catalog reference: KM 151.
