This specimen was lot 3486 in Goldberg sale 62 (Beverly Hills, February 2010), where it sold for $368. The catalog description[1] noted, "Costa Rica. ½ Escudo, 1864-JB. Arms of the Republic. Reverse: Indian woman leaning against column. Last year of issue and scarce. NGC graded AU-50." The type is noted for 1850-55 and 1864. Well struck specimens are very rare.

Recorded mintage: 9,018.

Specification: 1.60 g, .875 fine gold, .0450 troy oz AGW.
