This specimen was lot 24125 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it sold for $2,990. The catalog description[2] noted, "Republic gold Escudo 1842-MM, XF Details NGC (mount removed), variety with EST. A sharply struck example of this rare type with good eye appeal, mount trace at the top on both sides. Ex: Eliasberg Collection. The surfaces are lightly burnished and display some fine scratches, but this is a very collectable piece." This type, struck in 1842 only, comes in two varieties. The other (KM 33.2) is listed as 3.1 g.

Recorded mintage: 10,000.

Specification: 3 g, .875 fine gold, .084 troy oz AGW.
