This specimen was lot 21080 in Ponterio sale 161 (Chicago, August 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "COSTA RICA. 1/2 Escudo, 1828-CR F. NGC MS-63." This type was struck in Costa Rica 1828 and 1843-49; the 1846 is the most common date.

Recorded mintage: 4,435.

Specification: 1.69 g, .875 fine gold, .047 troy oz AGW.
