Heritage sale 3040, part of lot 31967
Colombia H3040-31967f.jpg

This specimen is one of a type struck at the Bogotá mint 1868-72. This specimen was part of lot 31967 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), which sold for $493.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Lot of 25 Minors, Denominations, dates, and grades vary. Close inspection is a must." Like most of the minors issued by Popayán in this period, this type is scarce. A earlier type of 1863-64 struck in .900 fine silver is slightly more available (KM 145.2) but most collectors must content themselves with a Bogotá product (KM 145.1). This type is rather scarce in any grade but not valued highly when weakly struck like this specimen.

Recorded mintage: 82,000.

Specification: 2.5 g, .835 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 151.1.
