This specimen was lot 12274 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1868 20 Pesos. Popayán mint. AU-53 (PCGS). An impressive coin, ideally showing the high relief portrait that makes Popayán 20 Pesos so distinctive. Satiny light yellow gold with excellent visual appeal for the grade. A single thin hairline scratch crosses the O of ESTADOS from the rim to the profile. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins. From Superior's sale of June 1974, lot 1185." This type was struck at Bogotá 1862-77, Medellin 1867-72 and Popayán 1863-78. Despite the steady issue, the type is rare and expensive.
