This specimen was lot 42004 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $26,400. The catalog description noted, "Restrepo Plate 1868 Medellín 5 Decimos Rarity. COLOMBIA. 1868-M 5 Decimos. Medellín mint. EF-45 (PCGS). One of just two known specimens according to Restrepo, this example was chosen to illustrate this incredibly rare issue. This is the debut 5 Decimos of Medellín, the first of two years of this Restrepo number. The surfaces retain a bit of silvery luster over even gray surfaces. The strike is strong on both sides and only a few trivial hairline scratches are seen. A classic rarity in this popular series. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." There are five known specimens according to the SCWC. This type was also struck in 1869 and at Bogotá and Popayan.
