Ponterio sale 137, lot 714

The specimen shown is a peso from the Popayán mint. It was lot 714 in Ponterio sale 137. Altho Bogotá issues are known for the years 1862-68, this is the only silver peso from Popayán. It is very rare and is valued in the catalog at fourteen times the price of the Bogotá issue. The striking of silver pesos ceased altogether in 1871.
