Colombia 1863 peso rev DSLR.jpg

The specimen shown is a peso from the Bogotá mint, one of a type struck 1862-68 while the country was known as the "Estados Unidos de Colombia." The design was changed to a liberty head style in 1868-71, after which the silver peso was dropped in favor of fifty centavos. The type is not rare but scarce in nice condition. There is a very rare issue from Popayán (KM 139.2).

Recorded mintage: 18,000.

Specification: 25 g, .900 fine silver, .7234 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 139.1.
