This type of two reales 'LEI OCHO DINEROS' from the Popayán mint was issued when Colombia changed its name to the Republic of Nueva Granada. This specimen was lot 25554 and sold on April 15, 2011 for $1,840 at the 2011 April Rosemont Signature World and Ancient Coins (CICF) Auction #3014 by Heritage Auctions. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Popayán 2 Reales 1842-VU, VF35 ANACS, Popayán. Scarcer assayer of year according to Dana and F. Craig but Restrepo ('89) strongly disagrees; one way or another, both are quite elusive. Attractive for this debased type which is also often afflicted with planchet laminations. From The Dana Roberts Collection."
