Colombia 1842-B RS 16 pesos
This specimen was lot 12157 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description noted, "COLOMBIA. 1842-RS 16 Pesos. Bogotá mint. MS-62+ (PCGS). An exemplary specimen, with a full strike on both sides, rich deep golden color, and unbroken cartwheel luster. As choice as could be imagined at this grade level, a gorgeous piece. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins. From R.R. Johnson Inc., August 1975." This type, struck at Bogotá 1837-49, replaced the earlier eight escudos (KM 82.1) and is identical in size and weight. It was also produced at Popayán. Assayer RS is listed for 1828-49.
