This specimen was lot 44123 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,110. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1/2 Real, 1841-VU/RU. Popayan Mint. VF-25 (PCGS). cf. KM-96.2; cf. Restrepo-178.9. Restrepo lists 1841-VU as 'rare', but does not mention the overassayer. Honest even wear and dark gray toning. A solid pleasing circulated example of a rare assayer combination, perhaps even more so as an unlisted sub variety. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Freeman Craig auction, May 8, 1984." This type was struck at Bogotá and Popayan 1838-48. Assayer RU is also noted for this date.
