Colombia 1841-B RS 16 pesos
This specimen was lot 12152 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description noted, "COLOMBIA. 1841-RS 16 Pesos. Bogotá mint. MS-63 (PCGS). A very pretty piece, with unbroken luster across choice and frosty pale yellow gold surfaces. A little granular at centers but very nice for the grade. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins. From R.R. Johnson Inc., August 1975." This type, struck at Bogotá 1837-49, replaced the earlier eight escudos (KM 82.1) and is identical in size and weight. It was also produced at Popayán. Assayer RS is listed for 1828-49.
