This type was struck 1822-38 at Popayán and Bogotá. This type is one of the commonest gold coins of South America but the recent rise in the price of gold has made this coin expensive. This specimen was lot 12197 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 8 Escudos, 1834-RS. Bogotá Mint. NGC AU-50."

Specification: 27.07 g, .875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
