This specimen was lot 12192 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 8 Escudos, 1818-NRJF. NGC AU-53." This type was struck at the Bogotá mint in Colombia 1808-20. Overdates abound tho none for 1818. Altho Ferdinand VII's name was used on the obverse legend, it is the bust of Charles IV which appears. This was typical for all of Colombia's coinage in the last years of the colonial era.
