This specimen was lot 24375 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1811-JF Popayán, nicely toned XF, an attractive colonial 8 Escudos with aged patina and luster in the legends." Altho Ferdinand VII's name was used on the obverse legend, it is the bust of Charles IV which appears. This was typical for all of Colombia's coinage in the last years of the colonial era. Assayer JF is recorded for 1792-1816. Overdates abound, including an 1811/0.

Specification: 27.07 g, .875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
