The first specimen was lot 40252 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1806/5-JJ 2 Escudos. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). MS-61 (PCGS). Frosty, lustrous, and very sharp, with even light yellow gold surfaces. Some trivial obverse hairlines are noted, and a single vertical hairline scratch crosses the eye and cheek. An especially high grade specimen from this run of scarce and rare two Escudos of Carlos IV. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Mike Dunigan, May 1985." The second specimen was lot 40253 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1806-JJ 2 Escudos. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). VF Detail — Mount Removed (PCGS). The last of the two Escudos struck in the name of Carlos IV at Bogotá, here with surfaces better than usually found on coins with jewelry use. Very scarce. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Galerie de Monnaies, April 1975."
