This specimen was lot 22282 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Escudo, 1803-JF. Popayan Mint. Charles IV (1788-1808). NGC AU-55. A charming circulated example with bright orange tone in the fields and a massive die crack that begins near the obverse rim at 4 o'clock and extends to the field near Charles IV's chin." This is among the more common gold coins of Spanish colonial America. Assayer JF is recorded for 1792-1808.

Specification: 3.38 g, .875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.
