This specimen was lot 40067 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1799-JF Escudo. Popayán mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). MS-62 (PCGS). Lustrous and original, with particularly nice frost, ideal centering, and great eye appeal. Well struck and free of problems, an ideal 18th century type coin. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Glendining's sale of November 1971, lot 483." This type was struck at Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) and Popayán 1791-1808 and is a common gold coin of Charles IV.
