This specimen was lot 11342 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1792-JJ 4 Escudos. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). AU-58 (PCGS). Lovely orange and rose toning adds interest to lustrous medium yellow gold surfaces. Flashy and lustrous, with areas of reflectivity and bold detail on both sides. Scattered lines and marks are seen, but the overall visual appeal is very positive. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins. From Don Canaparo, December 1980." This is the first year for the "standard bust" of Charles IV, used at Bogotá 1792-1807.
