This specimen was lot 40222 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1791-SF 2 Escudos. Popayán mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). AU-50 (PCGS). Lustrous and frosty rich yellow gold with some orange highlights. The obverse design elements show some strike doubling, including legends and the portrait. A subtle adjustment mark is seen within the shield, but no major flaws. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Spink America's sale of the Norweb Collection, March 1997, lot 389." 1791 marks the year the transitional bust of Charles III was dropped for the new bust of Charles IV. Four different two escudos exist for Colombia in 1791; two mints, two busts. All are priced the same in the SCWC.
