This specimen was lot 40224 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1791-JJ 2 Escudos. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). AU Detail — Cleaned (PCGS). A sharp example of this first portrait issue of Carlos IV. A little bright, with obverse texture that suggests possible jewelry use. The reverse is a bit more natural and shows pleasing orange tone. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Purchased in Cincinnati, August 1980." 1791 marks the year the transitional bust of Charles III was dropped for the new bust of Charles IV. Four different two escudos exist for Colombia in 1791; two mints, two busts. All are priced the same in the SCWC.
