Aureo sale 232, lot 1321
The specimen shown was lot 1321 in Aureo y Calicó sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 1,300 euros (about $2,145 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Carlos III (1759-1788). 1773. Popayán. JS. 8 escudos. Bella. Parte de brillo original. EBC-/EBC. (Charles III, 1759-88, eight escudos of 1773, Popayán mint, handsome, some original luster, extremely fine.)
This type was issued from Popayán 1772-84 and is perhaps the commonest eight escudos of Charles III.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, .901 fine gold, .784 troy oz AGW.
