Aureo sale 242, lot 206
The specimen shown was lot 206 in Aureo y Calico sale 242 (Barcelona, March 2012), where it sold for 1,100 € (about US$1,708 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Carlos III (1759-1788). 1769. Popayán. J. 4 escudos. Busto de Fernando VI. Ligerísimas rayitas en reverso. Parte de brillo original. Rara y más así. MBC+. (Charles III, 1759-88, four escudos of 1769, Popayán mint, bust of Ferdinand VI. Light scratches on reverse, partial luster, rare, choice very fine.)"
This type was struck 1760-62 and 1769 and is out of the reach of the average collector. The plate coin in the SCWC is of the same date and shows the same weakness around the king's mouth.

Specification: 13.53 g, .917 fine gold, .499 troy oz AGW.
