Colombia 1765-NR JV 2 escudos
This specimen was lot 1479 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $862.50. The catalog description noted, "1765 JV 2 escudos. Bogotá mint. EF-40 (NGC). Young head of Carlos III, legends around/crowned square arms, legends around. Medium gold, somewhat deeper toning peripherally. Attractive for the grade. From B. Max Mehl's sale of the Thomas W. Voetter Collection, January 1943, Lot 350." The "rat-nose" bust of Charles III was used at Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) 1762-71 but never at Popayán which continued with the bust of Ferdinand VI until 1771.
