This specimen was lot 1478 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $977.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "1763 J 2 escudos. Popayán mint. AU-55 (NGC). Large draped and armored bust of Fernando VI to right, CAROLS III in legends around, date below/crowned arms, legends around. Warm yellow gold with rich copper toning accents in the recesses. Some lustre remains. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." While the Popayán mint used the old bust of king Ferdinand in the 1760's, Bogotá used the "rat-nose" bust of Charles III.
