Aureo sale 242, lot 194
The specimen shown was lot 194 in Aureo y Calico sale 242 (Barcelona, March 2012), where it sold for 1,200 € (about US$1,863 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Fernando VI (1746-1759). 1759. Popayán. J. 4 escudos. Ligeros golpecitos. Parte de brillo original. Muy rara. MBC+. (Ferdinand VI, 1746-59, four escudos of 1759, Popayán mint. Light nicks, very handsome, partial luster, very rare, choice very fine.)"
This type was struck 1758-60 and is out of the reach of the average collector. The plate coin in the SCWC is of the succeeding type of Charles III.
