Sincona sale 38, lot 1191
This specimen was lot 1191 in Sincona sale 38 (Zurich, May 2017), where it sold for 575 CHF (about US$690 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Köln, Erzbistum, Hermannn IV. von Hessen, 1480-1508 Goldgulden o. J. Bonn. Gutes sehr schön. (archbishopric of Cologne, Herman IV of Hesse, 1480-1508, undated goldgulden, Bonn mint. Good very fine.)"
The archbishop of Cologne was one of the most prolific issuers of gold coins in the late middle ages but output declined drastically after the Reformation. This type is common.
