This specimen was lot 20094 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. 500 Yuan, 2016. NGC MS-70. Panda Series. This specimen, graded as a perfect MS-70 by NGC, is also noted on the holder label as 'ONE OF FIRST 1250 STRUCK.' The year 2016 marks the reduction in weight from 1 troy oz to 30 grams. Free of tone, haze or fog." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. The one ounce panda was raised from 100 yuan to 500 yuan in 2000 and reduced in weight from 31.1 g to 30 g in 2016.
