Sincona sale 39, lot 3006
This specimen was lot 3006 in Sincona sale 39 (Zurich, May 2017), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$540 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"100 Yuan 1988. Polierte Platte. FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung mit herrlicher Patina. (China, one hundred yuan of 1988. Choice Proof. In Original box of issue. Beautiful condition with magnificent patina.)"
The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. This was the first issue of this size of coin, 12 troy oz.

Recorded mintage: 5,000 proofs.
