This specimen was lot 2266 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "China. 100 Yuan, 1987 (Y). Panda drinking water. NGC graded MS-68." For several years in the eighties, the Shanghai mint ("S") and Shenyang mint ("Y") affixed mintmarks to their products, as here. The practice has since been discontinued.

Recorded mintage: 156,178 (s + y) + 10,000 proofs (P).

Specification: 31.11 g, .999 fine gold, 1.0000 ounce AGW.
