This specimen was lot 1671 in Goldberg sale 106 (Los Angeles, September 2018), where it sold for $1,170. The catalog description[1] noted, "China. Platinum 100 Yuan, 1987-S. Panda drinking at stream. NGC graded Proof 67 Ultra Cameo." As the popularity of the panda program ramified, Chinese authorities added platinum issues to the series. This metal was never as popular as the silver or gold and its issue was terminated in 1990.

Recorded mintage: 2,000.

Specification: 31.1 g, .999 fine platinum, 1.000 troy oz APW.
