Chile 1878-So peso

This is a peso minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1878. It is a common date of a common type struck 1868-91 but nice examples are always worth a premium. This specimen was lot 22368 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. Peso, 1878-So. NGC MS-64. Sharply struck, brilliant and quite attractive. From the Alex Siegel Collection."

Recorded mintage: 950,000.

Specification: 25 g, .900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 37 mm diameter.
