Sedwick sale 11, lot 979

The specimen shown was lot 979 in Sedwick sale 11 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $316.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Santiago, Chile, 1 peso, 1859. Lightly toned VF+ with small rim-bruise, a very competent specimen of an issue that is much rarer than indicated in KM." This type was issued from Santiago 1853-62 and this is an average date. An overdate, 1859/8, is listed as more common than the regular date.

Recorded mintage: 330,000.

Specification: 25 g, .900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW, this specimen 24.9 grams.
